Serambi Laut (Veranda By The Sea)

Design in Context
Serambi Laut is a coastal art retreat that reawakens the craft and performative traditions of 1930s Singapore through immersive making, learning, and storytelling. Rooted in the rhythms of the sea and kampong life, the retreat brings together Wayang Potehi and Wayang Kulit puppetry, basketry and weaving, batik, and fishing-net making and repair as living practices rather than static heritage. Workshops, rehearsal spaces, and performance grounds are interwoven to allow visitors to witness the full cycle of craft, from hand to stage. UnArted becomes a porous cultural landscape where memory, community, and coastal life converge, reviving forgotten skills through collective participation.
